Group 1 NASCAR Practice Notes

Josh Berry – Josh Berry had good speed in practice and was fast over his opening long run. Berry’s take off speed wasn’t great but among Group 1 drivers, Jeff Burton thought Berry was in a class of his own in terms of long run speed. In Group 1, Berry had the best 20,25 and 30-lap averages. Berry said he really liked his car, and it just needed a few tweaks.

Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch looked to be struggling. In Group 1, only Cody Ware was worse in terms of 15 and 20-lap averages. Among the few drivers who did 25 and 30-lap runs, he ranked last in Group 1.

Ryan Preece – The #60 looked solid in practice and had good speed. In Group 1, Preece had the 5th best 10-lap average, the 6th best 20-lap average and then ranked 3rd for 25 and 30-lap averages. Preece liked his car and said he felt good about his chances.

Michael McDowell – McDowell looked solid and had the best 15-lap average in Group 1. In terms of 20-lap averages he ranked 2nd in the Group.

AJ Allmendinger – Allmendinger looked pretty good in practice and had the best overall speed in Group 1. His 10-lap average was the 2nd best. I believe he pitted after his opening 10-lap run which made his 15 and 20-lap averages artificially slow.
