Baskonia set to sign NCAA record-holder

According to reporter Chema de Lucas, NCAA record-holder Markquis Nowell is set to sign with Baskonia.

Nowell etched his name into NCAA history when he dished out an incredible 19 assists in a single game — the most ever in the tournament. That same season, his playmaking brilliance was recognized with the prestigious Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation’s top point guard.

Last year, Nowell suited up for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Houston Rockets’ G League affiliate, where he averaged 17.3 points and 8.2 assists per game.

Before his time in the G League, he also had a stint in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors, where he played from July 2023 until March 2024, when the team decided to part ways.

Even on the league’s biggest stage, Nowell had some standout moments, including a memorable performance against the Golden State Warriors, when he recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 assists.
