Any time there is a controversy with Ye, Consequence usually isn’t too far away with his perspective on the matter. A new documentary about the Chicago producer showed unseen footage from his infamous 2018 Saturday Night Live appearance and how comedian Michael Che reacted to his fiery rant, prompting the Queens rapper to set the record straight.

In Whose Name, directed by Nico Ballesteros, is in theaters now. In one scene, Che confronts the Vultures artist with Cons directly next to him. “You good with me? That was f**ked up!” the 42-year-old actor said, referring to the artist formerly known as Kanye West calling out the show’s Black comedians for their Bill Cosby commentary. “Why you gotta call me out on the f**kin’ [stage] if I don’t got a chance to say anything for myself?”

The “Good Life” rapper claimed he was talking about Leslie Jones, but Che reminded him that he was the one who made the joke. West attempted to calm him down by saying he loved Che, and though the comedian reciprocated the love, he was still bothered by being called out. “I’m a fan. But why would you do that to me?” he added. “I work here! Come on, man. … We treat everybody that come in like family, and you’re gonna sell us out? That’s f**ked up, man! We look up to you. We love you. What you got against us?” Watch the clip below.

Consequence eventually stepped in to try to calm things down. Now, with the documentary out and the clip circulating on the internet, he felt it was necessary to clarify the context. “As far as that scene goes, look, it was Saturday Night Live, we wrapped. It was 1:30 in the morning, and I had my seven-year-old son outside at night,” he began. “So, as I started to realize what was going on […] and I looked my guy in the eyes, and he gave me ‘the look,’ I realized that that conversation was actually a confrontation.”

The “Don’t Forget ‘Em” rapper claimed that he chose to take the high road due to where they were. “So, because we were in a business setting […] I said, ‘Look, we should reconvene this conversation for later, okay?’” he added.

“I got [Ye] out of there, and what you don’t see in the edit […] is that [Michael Che] came back because he was at his job and he felt a way. So when he came back beefing, I told that ni**a, ‘Look, ni**a. Either you back the f**k up or we can go outside.’ He chose to back the f**k up. I gathered everybody together, I said ‘We leaving,’ and we left.” Cons said that Kim Kardashian, Che, and Ballesteros could all confirm his side of the story. Watch his full breakdown below.
