MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) – The Berkeley County School District confirmed that a middle school student was found to have a knife in their possession on school grounds on Wednesday morning.
The Berkeley County Middle School student, whose name and age were not released, was isolated immediately and there was no immediate threat, district spokesperson Katie Tanner said.
Tanner said school administrators received a report that a student may have a weapon. School leaders and the school resource officer searched the student and found the knife, which they confiscated, she said.
“The school is following all district policy and procedure to address this incident,” she said.
Tanner said the school was not placed on lockdown.
Wednesday’s discovery was the second time a student was found with a weapon on campus at the same school. A student was found to have a loaded handgun on the campus on Monday morning, district officials said.
