WHITESTOWN, N.Y. — A bat in Whitestown has tested positive for rabies.

According to the Oneida County Health Department, the bat was tested, with results confirmed on Sept. 25.

Four people and three cats were exposed.

The individuals received post-exposure treatment and the cats were given booster rabies vaccinations.

The exact location where the bat was located was not released by the health department. 

Residents are urged to recognize signs of rabies, which include unusual behavior, drooling or foaming at the mouth.

If you encounter a wild or stray animal displaying these signs, avoid approaching it and contact local animal control.
