Stephen Colbert continues to receive support from fellow late-night hosts following the bombshell news that CBS will be ending The Late Show after the upcoming 2025-26 season.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel was the first one to react Thursday night, not mincing words and going after CBS over the decision by writing “Love you Stephen. F*ck you and all your Sheldons CBS,” in an Instagram story.

NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers were more measured in their reactions, focusing on Colbert and his late-night legacy while also cracking (mostly) self-deprecating jokes.

“I’m just as shocked as everyone,” Fallon, who hosts The Tonight Show at 11:30 p.m., wrote in an Instagram story. “Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come. I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30. But honestly, he’s really been a gentleman and a true friend over the years, going back to The Colbert Report, and I’m sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant.”

Late Night With Seth Meyers is on hiatus, and its host has been posting vacation photos from Europe. He too took a moment to acknowledge his colleague.

“For as great a comedian and host he is, Stephen Colbert is an even better person,” Meyers wrote in an IG story. “I’m going to miss having him on TV every night but I’m excited he can no longer use the excuse that he’s ‘too busy to hang out’ with me.”

Colbert, Kimmel, Fallon, Meyers as well as HBO’s John Oliver have all showed support for each other over the years and came together during the strike to raise money for their striking writers by doing a joint podcast.

The Late Show‘s demise — which follows the end of CBS’ The Late Late Show end in 2023 — signals a potential “beginning of the end” for late-night, with the future of the other remaining shows uncertain.
