It is just one of those incidents that you probably never expect to happen, but when they do, it can transpire into one of the scariest episodes in the technology space. Daniel, who runs the YouTube channel ZONEofTECH, informed his subscribers on X that his Galaxy Ring’s battery started swelling, and at the worst of times, because he was just about to catch a flight. As a result of the device’s last-minute catastrophic failure, he was left stranded at the airport and was forced to find accommodation.

Thanks to the Galaxy Ring’s battery-swelling incident, the YouTuber’s last update said that he has been travelling for the last 47 hours; summarizes a few reasons for the accessory’s failure

The content creator has shared multiple images showing that the battery of the Galaxy Ring has expanded on the inside. As a result, the device has been fixed to his finger, with one individual on X commenting that something similar happened to them with their Oura smart ring, which required a Dremel to cut through. However, she warns him to place a file between the Galaxy Ring and his finger so as not to injure himself, while also cautioning him not to cut the battery.

According to Daniel’s previous update, he was denied entry on the flight, which is unsurprising, but with the incident happening at the worst possible time, he states that he has been travelling for the last 47 hours. He also said that he needs to find a hotel and will be heading home tomorrow. When asked how the battery swelling started, the YouTuber replies that he does not know, but mentions that the Galaxy Ring’s runtime was severely degraded for a few months.

The possible explanation, or explanations from ZONEofTECH, is the excessive heat when travelling in Hawaii, which is where the Snapdragon Summit was held, salt water, and being on two previous flights. Samsung U.K. has reached out to Daniel on his thread, but it is more than likely that the Korean giant’s reputation has been tarnished due to this incident. It appears that the company’s mistakes with the Galaxy Note 7 have returned to haunt it, but at least on this occasion, the battery only swelled, not exploded.

Update:

– I was denied boarding due to this (been travelling for ~47h straight so this is really nice 🙃). Need to pay for a hotel for the night now and get back home tomorrow👌

– was sent to the hospital, as an emergency

– ring got removed

The YouTuber has said that he will never wear a smart ring after this incident, and to be fair, we cannot blame him. The replies to his two posts have some helpful suggestions on how to safely remove the Galaxy Ring. If you happen to be in a similar predicament or if you own the same accessory, you can check out the entire story and bookmark it for future use.
