Earlier this year, Charity agreed to become a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and the young mechanic’s boyfriend Jacob Gallagher. The trio were pleased when an embryo transfer led to a successful pregnancy, but Charity has always suspected that she could actually be carrying Ross’s baby.
Her worst fears were confirmed this week when a secret DNA test verified Ross as the unborn child’s father. Once she’d processed the news, Charity confided in her cousin Chas about her intentions to carry on as planned – with Sarah and Jacob never finding out the truth.

In Wednesday’s episode, Ross pays a tense visit to Charity’s place and demands to know the DNA test results. Charity stalls for time by insisting that they still haven’t arrived.
Next on Charity’s agenda is to seek advice from computer expert Ryan on how to fake some official-looking documents. She makes out that her request is related to dodgy dealings at The Woolpack, but in reality, she hopes to use her new-found knowledge to trick Ross with a doctored set of DNA results.
Ryan reluctantly complies, but will Ross fall for it when he sees the document? Fans can see how the drama plays out when the episode airs tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1, or right now on ITVX and YouTube.

Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, previously said: “It’s absolutely brilliant to play, knowing that Charity is in such a mess now. This has created a huge element of conflict for her. As an actor, you can’t hope for a better storyline.
“I think it is just a jaw dropping moment for those that have followed the storyline. It just ups the stakes with everything. Sarah’s just got this desperate need to be a mum. Charity’s so desperate to please Sarah in that, and she feels her vocation is being this vessel to carry this child.
“There’s so much at stake for them. The audience finding this out, is just an amazing moment. It’s a good soap moment – a gift.”
