BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) – October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, intended to recognize the contributions of people with disabilities to the American workforce.
Here in the Southern Tier, these employment opportunities are recognized and celebrated.
The event held in Binghamton honored organizations that go above and beyond to support individuals with disabilities.
“We’re always hoping that companies will recognize the value that people with disabilities bring to the workplace, will hire people, will talk about their positive experiences so that others will then hire,” Executive Director at Yang Tan Institute, Wendy Strobel Gower, told 12 News.
Officials said these awards are more than just a name on a plaque, but a declaration that shows there is a place in the workforce for those living with a disability.
