JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – An app used to verify IDs may no longer work like it’s supposed to, according to the State of Missouri.
The Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control warned businesses that sell alcohol and tobacco to pay attention when using the “Show-Me ID’ app.
The app’s developer stopped supporting the app on Sept. 30, 2025.
“Because the Show-Me ID app was helpful to alcohol and tobacco retailers and enforcement personnel, we are working with state partners to explore potential options for restoring the app’s capabilities,” ATC Acting State Supervisor Christin Templeton said. “We are in an exploratory phase and do not have a timeline at this point.”
The good news is that while no one can download the app, users who already have the app can continue to use it as long as it remains compatible with a device’s operating system.
In addition to scanning barcodes on IDs, the app also allows birth dates to be manually entered to calculate an age, according to the state.
The state warns that businesses shouldn’t rely only on the app to verify if a customer is old enough to purchase alcohol or tobacco products.
