As Samsung keeps up with the usual preparatory pre-launch cadence of its next major UI update, labeled One UI 8.5, we are getting increasing number of tidbits apropos some of the new features that the UI rollout is likely to bring, including a very handy facility related to eSIMs.
Samsung’s One UI 8.5 Moves A Huge Step Closer To Bridging The Still-Yawning iOS-To-Android Portability Deficit
Moving an eSIM from one Android phone to another has become a relatively hassle-free process by now. However, the same can’t be said of iOS-to-Android portability.
This situation might soon change, thanks to a string that was recently located within the leaked Samsung One UI 8.5 build:

As is evident from the above snippet, Samsung is now apparently onboarding the ability to transfer an eSIM phone number from an iPhone to a compatible Galaxy device, and that too without involving a carrier.
As such, the UI update will now explicitly mention a dedicated option to transfer a SIM from an iPhone when setting up the device.
This is a huge step forward in bridging the compatibility issues between iPhones and Android devices, and could feasibly encourage other OEMs to introduce similar functionalities as well.
In the same vein, Samsung’s new UI update seems to be replete with some very interesting features. For instance, as we noted recently, the update will introduce smarter Wi-Fi controls, including Real-Time Data Priority Mode which establishes a hierarchy as to the use of cellular data by various apps, and AI-driven automatic switching between Wi-Fi and cellular broadband.
