They fled the scene using a stolen SUV, with a firearm and multiple car key fobs found inside, according to the sheriff’s office.
MACON, Ga. — Two suspects were arrested early Saturday morning in connection with breaking into cars at a Holiday Inn in Macon.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said that just after 2 a.m. deputies went to the Holiday Inn Macon at 3953 River Place Drive to respond to a call on two males breaking into cars.
They said that the two suspects fled the scene in a blue SUV, and deputies found it on Riverside Drive.
Deputies then tried to stop them, but they refused and eventually fled the SUV on foot, the sheriff’s office said.
After a brief foot chase on Napier Avenue, near Brookdale Avenue, deputies were able to stop the two suspects, according to the sheriff’s office.
They said that the blue SUV was stolen from Warner Robins, and it was recovered.
The sheriff’s office said that they found a firearm with an extended magazine and multiple car key fobs in the stolen car.Â
Jay’Shawn Lamar Smith, 17, and a 16-year-old were charged in the case, according to the sheriff’s office.
The 16-year-old was charged with theft by receiving stolen property and two counts of entering automobile, according to the sheriff’s office. They also said that he was released to his parents and waiting a court hearing.
Smith was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, two counts of entering automobile, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and multiple traffic violations, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said that Smith is being held without a bond at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center.
The case is still under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
