Amitabh Bachchan turned 83 on Saturday and, as always, celebrated his birthday with fans gathered outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa. The megastar continued his yearly ritual by stepping out to greet the massive crowd waiting to wish him, their cheers echoing through the street.
Thousands of admirers had assembled since early morning, carrying posters, flowers, and placards. When Amitabh finally appeared in the evening, dressed in a yellow and orange patterned jacket over a white kurta-pyjama, the crowd erupted with applause. With folded hands, he acknowledged their wishes and waved to the sea of fans who had gathered to celebrate his big day.
In several videos shared online, Amitabh can be seen smiling warmly, tossing goodies toward the crowd, and bowing repeatedly in gratitude. The sight of Amitabh waving from his Jalsa gate has become an emotional symbol for his fans over the decades. Even at 83, his energy and discipline remain unchanged, and his simple gesture of gratitude continues to strengthen the bond between the actor and his admirers.
The day also saw an outpouring of wishes from industry colleagues. Shatrughan Sinha, Manoj Bajpayee, and Farhan Akhtar extended their greetings online. Kriti Sanon said that his journey continues to inspire her, while Kajol affectionately called him a “forever rockstar.”
Amitabh, who married actor Jaya Bhaduri in 1973, is a father to Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan. His family, including daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and granddaughter Aaradhya, also reportedly marked the occasion privately at home.
On the work front, Amitabh will next be seen in Ribhu Dasgupta’s Section 84 alongside Diana Penty, Nimrat Kaur, and Abhishek Banerjee. He will also reprise his role as Ashwatthama in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD with Prabhas and Kamal Haasan, scheduled to begin production in December.
