Verizon outages today, Friday, Oct. 10, continue across the U.S. with customers reporting phones on “SOS” mode, Fios internet outages, texts failing to send, dropping calls and more.

Verizon outages have hit Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, impacting major cities like New York City and Philadelphia, and have stretched to California, where Verizon is down in Los Angeles, and Texas, per the phone company’s “Check Network Status.” NBC Studio at 30 Rock in NYC, where “Saturday Night Live,” Kelly Clarkson, and Jimmy Fallon tape, have seen outages for days, Verizon’s outage map shows.

Problems with Verizon phone service and 5G home internet hit a major spike shortly before 9 a.m. this morning nationwide, although outages have been consistent since Thursday, Oct. 9, according to Downdetector. Verizon has acknowledged the issue, alerting affected customers that “data, voice, text and wireless home internet” is limited.

Is Verizon down in my area?

To check if Verizon is out in your area, input your address using Verizon’s “Check Network Status.” Verizon will then provide details on when the service disruption started in your area and an estimated time of restoration.

SOS Mode? What is SOS on iPhone?

If the words “SOS” or “SOS only” mode is showing up on your iPhone or Samsung phone, it means your device isn’t connected to a network. While less of a problem with iPhone 14 or newer models, since there is built-in satellite connectivity to send emergency texts and calls, it could pose issues with an older phone.

Is Verizon Fios down?
