INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Fever legend Tamika Catchings joined WISH-TV’s Countdown to Kickoff as the celebrity guest ahead of the Colts game against the Cardinals.
Sports teams in Indianapolis have enjoyed quite a bit of success this year.
The Indiana Pacers made it to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2000.
The Indiana Fever made it to the WNBA Semifinals for the first time since 2015, when Catchings was on the team.
And now the Indianapolis Colts are off to a hot start to the season, taking a 4-1 record into the game on Sunday against the Cardinals. Plus, heading into games on Sunday, the Colts are at the top of the standings in the AFC.
“Indiana is the place to be,” Catchings said. “Indianapolis, the professional sports from last year to this year has been booming. And for me as a sports fan in general, I love all things Indianapolis. Football, I will have to say, I played it. I played flag football when I was young. I played tackle football when I was young. Now being able to watch our guys go, and of course up and down over the course of the last couple years. It’s great to see from all fields, from the Colts to the Pacers this past season, they got the win last night, to the Fever this past season,” Catchings added. “So I’m just excited. I’m like, let’s keep it rolling. You never know what could happen.”
The Colts, Pacers, and Fever players have all been supportive of each other too, attending each other’s games. Catchings says that support is not new.
“I go back to our days and thinking about Peyton (Manning), thinking about Reggie (Wayne), thinking about Robert Mathis, Edgerrin James, all of them used to come to the Fever games,” Catchings said. “We would go to the Colts games, they would come to the Fever games. Same thing with the Pacers. And what I love is being able to see just the support that has gone from one sport to the next to the next.”
Catchings played with the Fever from 2002-16. She is a Hall of Famer and helped lead the Fever to the 2012 WNBA championship.
Catchings was the MVP in 2011 and was the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year five times. She also is a ten-time WNBA All-Star.
The Colts look to stay unbeaten at home this season against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
