Arne Engels was Celtic’s record signing back in the summer of 2024.

Shelling out £11m, Engels became Celtic’s most expensive-ever signing as he made the move from the Bundesliga to the SPFL.

The Belgian has struggled to command a place in Celtic’s starting line-up this season but that still hasn’t stopped the CIES Football Observatory from placing a hefty value on the young 22-year-old midfielder.

Engels was once valued between £14m and £19m just months after he made his move to Celtic from Augsburg last summer.

After his Champions League and domestic exploits, the Celtic midfielder’s value continued to soar when the Belgian was priced at around £17.75m and £25.3m by the football research group.

And now, just months into the new season, Celtic find out Engels’ new value compared to Rangers’ Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin.

CIES have valued Engels between €15m-€17m (£13.05m-£14.79m) after completing his first full season at Celtic.

Despite his first two values exceeding what CIES say Engels is worth now using their Fair Price model, the Belgian is still worth more than the price the Hoops paid Augsburg just over one year ago now.

So how does this value compare to Rangers’ Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin?

Well, Raskin doesn’t even make the list. The only Rangers player CIES has on their list is Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore who is valued between €12m-€14m (£10.44m-£12.18m) which is significantly lower than Engels.
