Less than one month after backpack bomb found at Sunset Beach

On Sunday, Pacific County Sheriff’s Office deputies found what was reported to them as a “homemade explosive device,” on a roadway shoulder off of the 100 block of Chinook Valley Road in Washington, according to a press release from the PSCO.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers found what appeared to be a pipe bomb and after securing the area called in support from the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad, who determined the device to be “potentially viable.”

The explosive device was safely removed from the scene. Authorities said arrangements have been made for its disposal.

The event takes place less than one month after “a backpack bomb” was discovered and defused at a Sunset Beach restroom in Clatsop County on Sept. 16.

The PCSO is asking anyone with information related to the bomb found in Chinook to contact their office.

The number for the PCSO is 360-642-9300.
