More exciting first-round matches are scheduled on Day 2 of the ATP Stockholm Open, and fans can expect a great day of tennis. This article features former world No.6 Matteo Berrettini, who takes on his compatriot Giulio Zeppieri. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance?
ATP Stockholm Day 2 Predictions
Kamil Majchrzak vs Filip Misolic
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Kamil Majchrzak is making his main draw debut at the Stockholm Open and will aim to get off to a strong start. He has been having a good season and can be a dark horse this week if he brings his best tennis. Filip Misolic came through two brutal qualifying matches and needed those wins badly as he was on a six-match losing streak in all competitions. However, Majchrzak is a far superior player to anyone he has lately faced, and I do not expect him to win.
Prediction: Majchrzak in 3
Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Mark Lajal
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Tomas Martin Etcheverry looked in good touch in Hangzhou but had to retire during his quarterfinal match against Corentin Moutet due to physical exhaustion. He should be fine now and try to get some match wins here. Mark Lajal comes into this match with multiple indoor matches under his belt, and Etcheverry must play well to win. I can see the Argentinian losing a set but should prevail in the end.
Prediction: Etcheverry in 3
Mikael Ymer vs Elias Ymer
Head-to-Head: first meeting
What a tremendous opening round encounter for Swedish fans and the tournament, as two brothers face off for the first time on the ATP Tour. Mikael Ymer will play his first match in over two months and has not won a main draw match this season. Elias Ymer, on the other hand, is on an eight-match losing streak in all competitions. Both players need a win desperately, and it could go either way. However, Mikael Ymer is the better player and should win if he plays well.
Prediction: Mikael Ymer in 3
Marin Cilic vs Nicolai Budkov Kjaer
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Marin Cilic showed some vintage level against Novak Djokovic in Shanghai and would have defeated most of the top 100 players on that day. If he can show that level and be consistent, he can cause a lot of problems this week. Nicolai Budkov Kjaer has been in excellent form on the Challenger Tour and will be confident heading into this match. He has the matches under his belt, but facing Cilic will put his nerves to the test. I expect this match to be close, but backing the Croatian to leverage his experience and win.
Prediction: Cilic in 3
Matteo Berrettini vs Giulio Zeppieri
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Matteo Berrettini is having another injury-plagued season and is unable to gain any momentum. He hopes to get some rhythm this week and has a good opening round match on paper. Giulio Zeppieri has won just one tour-level match this season and will find it hard to tackle the serve and forehand of his compatriot. I am backing Berrettini to get a comfortable win here.
Prediction: Berrettini in 2
