OVID, MI – A first-time event at a Michigan speedway will help support causes that are part of a NASCAR driver’s foundation.
The inaugural Burnin’ Rubber 5K Run and Walk, hosted by the Erik Jones Foundation, is set to take starting at 10 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the Owosso Speedway, located at 7204 W. M-21 in Ovid.
Jones, a Byron, Mich. native and driver of the No. 43 car for Legacy Motor Club in the NASCAR Cup Series, will lead runners and walkers to start the line as well as join in the event.
Proceeds raised from the event will support the foundation’s mission including childhood literacy, early cancer detection, and animal welfare.
Jones announced the formation of the foundation at the 2021 Back to the Bricks event, which included a donation to the Genesee District Library.
He also donated a book vending machine to his hometown elementary school in Byron during March is Reading month in 2023.

Jones started a #READwithErik program when COVID-19 shut down the country and he has read dozens of children’s books to young readers at NASCAR races and on his Facebook page.
He has enjoyed reading since he was a kid, his father, Dave, died of cancer in 2016 and he grew up with pets. His latest is Oscar, a German Shepherd, according to MLive reporting.
The 5K course starts and finish on the speedway itself.
Specially designed finisher medals will be handed out as the participants finish on the course.
Age group awards will be given to top three finishers in each run division.
The 5K run and walk is $40 for adults through Oct. 31, after which it increases to $45.
Children 12 and under can participate for free. Adult supervision is required.
A Kids Run will take place at 11 a.m., comprising of one lap around the speedway’s track.
