BOSTON — Jaylen Brown exited the Boston Celtics’ preseason finale midway through the first quarter Wednesday after experiencing left hamstring tightness and is doubtful to return to the game, according to the team.

Injury update vs. Toronto:

Jaylen Brown (left hamstring tightness) – DOUBTFUL TO RETURN

— Boston Celtics (@celtics) October 16, 2025

With about five minutes left in the first quarter of Boston’s matchup with the Raptors, Brown started moving gingerly after throwing a pass to Anfernee Simons in transition. Following the next whistle, Brown subbed out and walked directly toward his team’s locker room area. He could be seen reaching back to his left hamstring before and after he left the court.

Already with Jayson Tatum sidelined indefinitely by a torn Achilles, the Celtics will need Brown to step into an even bigger role this season. If the injury forces him to miss any time in the regular season, their young wings would be pressed into more playing time. Outside of Brown, only Sam Hauser has played a consistent role for the Celtics in the past on the wing. Josh Minott, Hugo González, Baylor Scheierman and Jordan Walsh have been competing for minutes during the preseason.
