After a historic season for North Alabama men’s basketball, the Lions come into this year with high expectations.
The Lions were picked to win the ASUN Conference in the ASUN Conference preseason media poll, it was announced on Friday.
North Alabama garnered 18 of the 51 first-place votes in the media poll. The Lions were selected second in the coaches poll behind Queens University, which got six first-place votes.
Last season saw UNA go 24-11 and share the ASUN Conference regular-season title before finishing as the league tournament runner-up and making an appearance in the National Invitation Tournament.
Forwards Corneilous Williams and Donte Bacchus were selected to the 10-member preseason all-conference team.
The Lions’ women were picked to finish sixth in the ASUN Conference by both the coaches and media.
In Candi Whitaker’s first season as head coach, the Lions finished 13-17 overall and 8-10 in ASUN Conference play, falling to No. 3-seeded Lipscomb in the first round of the league tournament.
UNA’s women will open the season at home against UT Martin on Monday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.
The men will host an exhibition against NAIA Stillman College on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. before opening the regular season at Mississippi Sate on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
