The Boston Bruins are off to a hot start to begin the season and could look to add more talent to the roster.

The Bruins could upgrade their top-six and add some more scoring to the lineup. NHL analyst Adam Gretz linked Boston to trading for Brennan Othmann of the New York Rangers, who’s name has come up in trade rumors.

“It just hasn’t worked out for Othmann in terms of getting a consistent role or consistent playing time in the NHL, while their development seems to have stalled,” Gretz wrote in a piece published on Friday, naming the Bruins as one of five potential landing spots.

“Othmann still has talent and upside, but it just does not seem likely he is going to become the player the team wanted in their current situation. Give him a clean slate with a new staff and a new organization, and see what happens.”

The Rangers selected Othmann 16th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. However, he has failed to make the NHL roster, and after being sent down to the AHL again, insider Elliotte Friedman reported that teams have called New York in hopes of acquiring Othmann.

“It’s early and most teams try to wait until making moves, but there is at least one name gaining traction out there,” Friedman wrote in a piece published on Thursday. “That’s New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann. Othmann was sent down to AHL Hartford after failing to make the NHL team, and, since that occurred, there’s been conversations with other clubs about his future.”

What it costs to acquire Othmann is uncertain, but he would get a chance to be an everyday player for the Bruins.

Othmann has skated in 25 career NHL games, recording two assists.
