CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball used a 25-4 run to end the first half and never look back in an 83-44 exhibition victory over Presbyterian on Friday night in Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Tigers trailed 15-10 with 11:44 remaining in the opening stanza, but used a 25-4 run to take a 16-point lead into the break. Clemson exploded for 48 second half points in the dominating 39-point win.
Twelve Tigers saw action against the Blue Hose and four scored in double-digits, led by Jestin Porter’s (Houston, Texas/Cypress Ridge/Middle Tennessee State) 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and three made 3-pointers. Clemson posted 42 points from its bench.
Nick Davidson (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mater Dei) (12), Butta Johnson (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom/UAB) (11), Zac Foster (Atlanta, Ga./Woodward Academy) (10) rounded out the double-figure scorers.
Aside from that, Carter Welling (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon/Utah Valley) added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench. Chase Thompson (Glenwood, Minn./Alexandria Area) also added eight points with two thunderous dunks to go along with it.
RJ Godfrey (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett/Georgia) turned in a solid first half with seven points and two blocks but suffered a sprained ankle and was limited to just under nine minutes.
The Tigers’ aggressive style of basketball forced 21 Blue Hose turnovers that turned into 21 Clemson points. Conversely, the Tigers committed just six turnovers that lead to three points.
Clemson will open its season on Monday, Nov. 3 when it hosts New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. tip on ACCNX.
