Dos Pueblos girls golf capped off a perfect Channel League season with a victory over rival Santa Barbara High on Thursday at Santa Barbara Golf Course.
The Chargers (13-0, 7-0 Channel League) went undefeated in the regular season to capture the league title. In Thursday’s win, Dos Pueblos carded a team score of 224 and the Dons ended the day at 258.
“This year we have committed as a team to just get better and do our best one shot at a time,” Dos Pueblos head coach Dan Choi said. “We knew that if we could stay focused on that, we would have success. As the season went on, it became harder to stay focused and not worry about staying undefeated.
“Even with this extra pressure, the whole team did such an incredible job of staying focused on our progress. With a good performance over a good SB team, we were finally able to enjoy a bit of the fruits of our labor.”
Celeste Alcaraz led a strong Charger effort that featured all six golfers finishing with a score of 50 or lower. Alcaraz earned the medalist honor after shooting a 40.
She was joined by Dani Hickman (42), Angelia Pagliaro (47), Sophia Fuste (47), Bella Sebastian (48) and Ursula Solodkin (50).
“I can’t say enough about how impressed I have been with the girls all year,” Choi said. “The coaches and I always talk about how lucky we are to have a dedicated group of kind, smart and hardworking athletes.”
On the other side, Sage Malmsten finished atop the leaderboard for the Dons in their best team performance of the season, shooting a 44.
The rest of the Santa Barbara High golfers were Cecila Duarte (47), Kaya Ziets (52), Jazmin Mislang (54), Dani Wise (61) and Charly Crane (63).
