WASHINGTON, DC — Charlie Lindgren will be back in net for the Capitals on Sunday afternoon. Head coach Spencer Carbery confirmed pregame that Lindgren would start against the Vancouver Canucks as the Capitals enter the second half of a four-game homestand.
The Sunday matinee will be Lindgren’s second start of the campaign. He made his 2025-26 season debut a week prior, recording a 35-save shutout against the New York Rangers.
After Lindgren and Logan Thompson split goaltending duties for much of last season, Thompson has served as the team’s regular starter this fall, but Carbery told reporters Saturday he still expects Lindgren to get frequent ice time.
When asked whether he planned for Lindgren to start at least “once a week or so,” Carbery responded, “Oh, no doubt. And sometimes, I’ll tell you right now, it’ll be more than that at whatever points. I mean, both guys have — LT’s played great. Chuckie’s been in a game, played great. We’ll see where the rotation goes.”
Lindgren ended the 2024-25 season with a record of 20-14-3, posting a 2.73 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage. He is playing the first season of a three-year, $9 million extension he signed in March.
Trevor van Riemsdyk will also replace Declan Chisholm on the blue line, per Carbery, but the Capitals will otherwise retain the same lineup from their 5-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday night.
