Fulham’s ownership have told head coach Marco Silva of their desire to renew his contract, which contains a release clause in the region of £15million ($20.1m).

Detailed talks over a fresh deal are yet to take place while the primary focus is on results, however there is goodwill on both sides.

Silva often keeps his options open and listens to approaches before making such decisions, but there is a determination from the club hierarchy keep him at Craven Cottage.

The 48-year-old’s terms expire at the end of this season, having last extended in October 2023.

Silva had been admired by Nottingham Forest in their search to replace Ange Postecoglou, before the former Everton and Burnley manager Sean Dyche emerged as their preferred candidate.

The Portuguese previously worked under Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis as Olympiacos head coach and the two maintain a mutual relationship.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s defeat by Arsenal, Silva was asked about his future given the Fulham owner Shahid Khan was over from the United States with his NFL team the Jacksonville Jaguars in action at Wembley Stadium. Silva confirmed that Khan had told him he sees him as part of the future at Fulham.

“I’ve met him already,” Silva said. “The main reason was not just the contract, we have many things to talk about.

“I’ve felt always part of this football club, from the first day until day. Like players, it’s normal they (other clubs) show interest in myself and my staff. It’s a normal situation. (But) Full focus on us and working with the club on the future too.

“I’ve been here five years, why not more. It (the contract situation) is not gong to be something that disrupts our season. If I have to, I’ll speak with you (about it) every single week as well. I think it’s not necessary to speak every week about it. The right time to speak, it will arrive.”

ClubElo is a rating system that works by allocating teams points when they win, giving more for beating tougher sides and fewer for dealing with easier opponents. Likewise, the points a team can lose for a defeat are weighted by the quality of the opposition.

Silva is in his fifth season at the west London club, whom he led to the Championship title in his first campaign in charge before a period of consolidation in the top flight.

Under Silva, Fulham have finished 10th, 13th and 11th in the Premier League, ending a decade-long run of seasons without a season in the top flight avoiding relegation.

In 2024-25, Silva’s Fulham set a new club record in the Premier League by winning 54 points, which came with an 11th-place finish. This season, they are 14th after eight games.

Fulham have reached the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup in 2022-23 and 2024-25, while playing in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup in 2023-24.

Silva’s managerial career began in Portugal, spending three years at Estoril and a season at Sporting CP, where he won the Taca de Portugal. He won the Super League Greece in one season at Olympiacos before spells in England with Hull City, Watford, Everton and Fulham — whom he joined in 2021.
