Richard: As usual, thorough and insightful guide to a team’s offseason.
I quibble a bit with your characterizations of Jessica Shepard and Dijonai Carrington, however.
Shepard has been around that core group. In fact, she’s been there longer than some of them (Williams and Alanna Smith). Maybe not on a continual, linear basis, but she knows the Lynx and Reeves way.
Also, when Collier was out, Shepard stepped into the starting lineup and played very well, having a few “WTF” statistical nights. Now, to me — one of Reeve’s few faults as a coach is she overplays her starters, even when they prove themselves a game or two earlier. The injuries — most notably to Collier — have given folks like Shepard and Collier a chance to step up and prove their worth.
There’s a lot to decide. Even if Reeve wants Shep, will it be too expensive and go for Juhasz, who has many of the same attributes and comes a lot cheaper.
Carrington is a different case. She is a late joiner to the Lynix, but played very well for the short amount of time that she did. In this case, she can do many things that Carlton can’t and vice versa. Can Reeve keep both or go with one over the other?
