LA PORTE, Calif. – Firefighters from the Plumas National Forest Feather River Ranger District are gearing up for prescribed burning operations.
The United States Forest Service says planned burn activity is set to take place approximately 1 mile southwest of La Porte, along the south side of La Porte Road, starting Tuesday, October 21, at 10 a.m.
According to the Plumas National Forest, the operation aims to treat roughly 227 acres, with ignitions potentially continuing through Thursday. Smoke from these burns is expected to be visible but not significantly impact nearby communities like La Porte, American House, Strawberry Valley, and Challenge.
There may be some short-term smoke effects along La Porte Road and neighboring forest roads. Visibility could be reduced, especially in the morning and evening, due to settling smoke. If necessary, traffic controls will be implemented on La Porte Road.
Residents and visitors, particularly those sensitive to smoke, are advised to monitor conditions. Smoke might settle in lower areas like La Porte and American House during the evening.
The burning operation will increase firefighting equipment traffic. Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of fire equipment entering and exiting roadways, which might slow traffic.
Those planning to recreate in the area, including hunters and fishers, are encouraged to remain vigilant about smoke and visibility conditions, and to be mindful of vehicle and firefighter activity near roads.
Firefighters will halt operations if weather conditions, such as gusty winds, become unfavorable. They will continuously monitor conditions throughout the burning process.
