MEMPHIS, Tenn. – It is game night in Grind City and it is a big one. The Memphis Grizzlies open their 25th season in Memphis on Wednesday night at home against the New Orleans Pelicans, kicking off a three-game home stand to start the year.
After an injury-riddled offseason and preseason, fans are ready for some good news and they are getting it.
Ja Morant is back in action after missing the preseason with a sprained ankle and is cleared to play. While there are still several players on the injury list, having Ja back on the floor brings the energy and leadership this team has been missing.
And because it is Memphis, the celebration goes way beyond basketball. The Stax Music Academy will perform the National Anthem, Moneybagg Yo will take the stage for player introductions, and Shinedown will rock the halftime show.
Throughout the season, to commemorate the anniversary, the team will wear throwback versions of their 2001 to 2003 black “MEMPHIS” jerseys, and a special matching court is also being used.
Both pay tribute to the team’s first years after the move from Vancouver and celebrate a quarter-century of Memphis basketball.
Fans heading to the game Wednesday night will also get a special treat. The first 5,000 fans through the doors will receive a commemorative T-shirt marking the Grizzlies’ 25th season in Memphis.
Tickets are still available through the team’s website and major outlets. Doors open 90 minutes before tip-off, and fans can expect upgraded lighting, new fan zones, and special tributes all season long.
