On Reddit, one woman explained that she and her grandfather were very close
He recently passed away and left her about $30,000, and she had planned to use the money responsibly
Her boyfriend of two years, however, is upset that she won’t split it with him
One woman is opening up about a recent conflict with her boyfriend after receiving an inheritance from her late grandfather.
In a post on Reddit’s Am I the A—— forum, the woman explained that her grandfather — whom she was very close to — recently passed away and left her about $30,000. Even before receiving the money, she said she had planned to use it responsibly, paying off her debt and putting the rest into savings.
While sharing the news with her boyfriend of two years, things took an unexpected turn. The couple, who do not live together, had very different ideas about how to use the money.
“When he found out about the inheritance, his first reaction was, ‘That’s awesome, we can finally go on that Europe trip!’ ” she wrote. “I told him we’re not spending it, and he looked at me like I’d committed treason.”

She added that he’s since accused her of being selfish, saying things like, “I thought we were a team,” and, “Money shouldn’t be secret between partners.” When she reminded him that they’re not even engaged, he replied, “Wow, so it’s your money, not ours?”
“Yes,” she told him. “That’s literally how inheritance works.”
Now, the woman says her boyfriend has been cold and distant, accusing her of “showing her true colors.” She turned to Reddit for advice, asking: “Am I the a—— for refusing to share something that was meant for me?”

Since posting, hundreds of users have chimed in — and most are firmly on her side. Many commenters said it was actually the boyfriend who revealed his true colors.
“Congrats for standing up for yourself! He’s hoping his pouting will change your mind,” one person wrote.
Another added, “I’m glad he showed you his real self. It gets worse — and at least now you know. It’s yours 1000%, there’s nothing for him.
