ENCINO, CA — As many of four bears were spotted lounging high in a tree in the middle of a San Fernando Valley neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, according to a report.

The sighting was reported at around 12:30 a.m. on the 16000 block of Ashley Oaks, a hillside neighborhood north of Ventura Boulevard in Encino, ABC 7 reported.

Several bears were visible in a tree, just steps from homes, in helicopter footage aired by ABC 7.

Bear sightings are not unusual in Southern California neighborhoods, particular in the areas of the San Fernando Valley that abut more wild mountainous areas.

A wandering bear was shot out of a Chatsworth tree by a tranquilizing dart last year — and turned up days later in Sylmar after wildlife officials attempted to relocate her deep in the mountains.
