After being listed as questionable on Friday, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been ruled inactive with back tightness. That means Bailey Zappe will serve as Dillon Gabriel’s backup against the New England Patriots.

Elsewhere in the AFC North, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson won’t play Sunday against the Chicago Bears, the Ravens confirmed Saturday. Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is set to start in Jackson’s place, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

While Jackson returned to practice this week, his Friday practice status was downgraded from “full” to “limited,” and he’s now officially been ruled out for the Week 8 matchup against the Bears.

The two-time NFL MVP is working his way back from a hamstring injury that he suffered during a Sept. 28 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Sunday’s absence will be Jackson’s third in a row.

He’s expected to return to the field Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins in Week 9, according to Schefter.

Cooper Rush started Baltimore’s past two games in Jackson’s place, both losses. Huntley was signed off the practice squad on Friday and looks like he will be QB1 this week.

Another quarterback who won’t play this week is Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders.

The second-year signal caller is dealing with a low-grade right hamstring strain, according to head coach Dan Quinn. An MRI on Monday showed no long-term damage after Daniels injured it during last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Marcus Mariota will start his third game this season in place of Daniels.

There was some good news for the Commanders as Quinn confirmed on Saturday that both Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel will be active Monday night. McLaurin has missed four games with a quad injury, while Samuel sat out Week 7 with a heel ailment.

Other notable Week 8 injuries:

The ankle injury that Bryce Young suffered last week against the New York Jets will keep him out of Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills. The Carolina Panthers quarterback is listed as doubtful for Sunday and Andy Dalton will get the start.

Brock Purdy may be close to returning to the San Francisco 49ers, but it won’t happen this week. The quarterback will miss the game against the Houston Texans and Mac Jones will get his sixth start of the season. “It is different dealing with a toe,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Purdy’s injury. “But I’d say it’s steadily getting better each week.”

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson is questionable for Sunday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Saturday, he was activated off the PUP list. He has not played suffering a torn ACL in Week 18 last season.

In Atlanta, there is a chance that Kirk Cousins starts over an injured Michael Penix Jr. against the Miami Dolphins this week. Penix is dealing with a bone bruise in his knee, which he suffered last week against the 49ers. Cousins took an increased amount of reps this week. Head coach Raheem Morris said a decision would come on game day.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is battling and illness, but will play in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons. Tagovailoa was a late add to the injury report due to the illness, but it won’t keep him out of the game.

It’s been a rocky year for the 27-year-old. Through seven games, Tagovailoa leads the NFL with 10 interceptions. He’ll look to improve on those numbers against the Falcons, though the illness could limit Tagovailoa’s production.

The Atlanta Falcons are already banged up coming into Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Kirk Cousins will start for the injured Michael Penix, and could be missing his top wideout when the game gets underway.

Drake London is a game-time decision for Sunday’s contest after being added to the injury report with a hip issue.

London will be evaluated prior to Sunday’s game to determine whether he can play. The 24-year-old has 469 receiving yards and two touchdowns in six games this season.

Jets running back Breece Hall, who was originally listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Bengals, is expected to play, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Hall was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a knee injury, but returned to full participation on Friday.

Per Schefter, TE Mason Taylor is also likely to play after being listed as questionable with a quad injury.

Diggs will miss at least the next four games after suffering a concussion due to an accident at home. He did not play last week against the Commanders.

The earliest he can return to the team is Week 12 ahead of their Thanksgiving Day game against the Eagles.

A week that started with first-year New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn refusing to name a starting quarterback ahead of a Week 8 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, and that included team owner Woody Johnson slamming the play of Justin Fields at the NFL’s annual fall owners meeting, will reportedly culminate in Fields starting for the winless Jets, anyway.

Tyrod Taylor, who replaced a benched Fields in the second half of a Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers, has been ruled out with a knee injury, and Fields will once again get the nod versus the Bengals, according to the New York Post.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson won’t play Sunday against the Chicago Bears, the Ravens confirmed Saturday.

As Lamar Jackson appears to be making a comeback this week, Cooper Rush gets demoted to QB3.

Rush started in Jackson’s absence in a 44-10 loss to the Houston Texans and the 17-3 loss to the Rams. The Ravens benched Rush as they failed to score a touchdown against the Rams. They replaced him with Huntley in the fourth quarter of a game in which the Ravens got booed by their home fans.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk could have his 21-day practice window opened as soon as next week, clearing a path for his return. Aiyuk has been on injured reserve since he suffered a season-ending ACL/MCL injury in Week 7 last year.

With Lamar Jackson still questionable for Sunday, the Ravens are adding some QB depth, signing Tyler “Snoop” Huntley from the practice squad.

Huntley started the preseason with the Browns, battling it out in a crowded quarterback room, before signing with the Ravens’ practice squad just before the start of the regular season. This is Huntley’s third stint with Baltimore since signing with the team in 2020 as an undrafted free agent.

Cooper Rush had been stepping in while Jackson has been recovering from his hamstring injury, but after two tough losses heading into last week’s bye, Baltimore is trying something new in Week 8.
