Making his first start as a pro on the PGA Tour, Leesburg’s Michael Brennan recorded a four-shot victory in last weekend’s Bank of Utah Championship. That win earned him a spot to continue competing at the sport’s highest level.
Brennan, a star golfer at Wake Forest University, entered the tournament at Black Desert Golf Course in Ivins, UT, on a sponsor’s exemption. After excelling in PGA Tour Americas competition this year, he was headed for the PGA’s next level of player development on the Korn Ferry Tour. With his tournament win, he may skip that and play in the top league with a two-year tour membership.
He also took home $1.08 million in winnings.
Born in Leesburg in 2002, Brennan played on the golf team at Tuscarora High School. Afterwards, he played at Wake Forest, earning eight individual wins and taking back-to-back victories at the 2023 and 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships.
Brennan earned his PGA TOUR Americas membership last season after finishing 12th in the PGA Tour University class of 2024, a ranking that determines whether graduating college seniors get automatic access to PGA TOUR Americas circuits. Brennan earned a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour just six weeks ago, after a three-victory promotion on the PGA Tour Americas.
