DETROIT – Michael Brandsegg-Nygard looked good in training camp and the preseason, but a nine-game trial run with the Detroit Red Wings showed he needs development time in the AHL.

The Red Wings on Monday assigned their top pick from 2024 to the Grand Rapids Griffins and avoided exhausting one year from his entry-level contract.
