Even at age 38, DeWanna Bonner was among the top players in the league. Her 2025 WNBA season didn’t go as planned after she joined the Indiana Fever in free agency. However, she left the Fever in the mid-season and later joined the Phoenix Mercury.

However, the Mercury star was still grateful for the season. On Tuesday, Bonner posted a series of pictures on her Instagram handle and captioned the post with a long message, filled with gratitude.

“So much can change in a year. ✨ When I look back, I’m amazed by the journey the highs, the lessons, the pivots, and the quiet wins that didn’t always make the timeline. More than anything, I’m grateful. 🙏🏽,” Bonner wrote in the caption.

Bonner received a lot of praise from the WNBA world in the comment section, including Chicago Sky star Angel Reese.

“You are the WOMAN we all inspire to be. From your craft to your motherhood to you just being a beautiful, amazing human being. You always have a lil sis in me🤍,” Reese wrote in the comment.

Indiana Fever player Bree Hall also commented on the post.

“proud of you db ❤️! miss you! 🥹,” she wrote.

Dallas Wings sideline reporter and former WNBA player Tiffany Bias showed love to DeWanna Bonner.

“My forever fav! I’m so proud of you and your resilience through it all. Love you ❤️,” she wrote.

Bonner’s Mercury teammate Kalani Brown also reacted to the post with a two-word comment.

“That gworllll😍🙂‍↕️,” she wrote.

Lexie Hull reveals how DeWanna Bonner’s departure brought the Fever team together

DeWanna Bonner’s signing made the Indiana Fever one of the most dangerous teams in the league. Bonner was expected to elevate the Fever with her elite offense. However, things quickly took a U-turn when she stepped away from the team in June.

Weeks later, she was waived by the Fever, making her a free agent. While the WNBA veteran had to face the Fever fans’ wrath, players never addressed the departure until Lexie Hull decided to speak.

In her interview with Galmour, Hull said that she was excited about the opportunity to learn from Bonner when the latter joined the Fever. However, as disappointed as she was, Bonner’s departure eventually ended up helping the team.

“To have no explanation [for Bonner’s departure] was really challenging, but I think that helped us grow closer together because we’re like, ‘All right, this is us. We’re here. We’re going to support each other. We’re loving each other. We’re going to fight for each other. We’re not going to leave. We’re in this together.”

DeWanna Bonner signed a one-year deal with the Mercury and helped the team reach the WNBA Finals.
