Multiple law enforcement officers have been indicted in a yearslong conspiracy to traffic drugs across the state in exchange for money.The FBI, including the head of the Jackson branch, joined the United States Attorney’s Northern District of Mississippi in Oxford Thursday afternoon.U.S. Attorney Clay Joiner said 20 people were indicted for taking bribes and aiding and abetting drug trafficking and associated crimes. Joiner said the law enforcement officers and their accomplices provided safe passage of drug transport through the Delta in exchange for bribe money. In two instances, drugs were transported to Memphis and to Miami.Among the 20 people indicted in the conspiracy include Brandon Addison, who was employed with the Hollandale Police Department and the Humphries County Sheriff’s Office; Javery Howard, who was with the Metcalf Police Department and the Hollandale Police Department; Milton Gaston, who is the Washington County sheriff; Truron Grayson, who worked for the Humphries County Sheriff’s Office; Bruce Williams, who is the Humphries County sheriff; Sean Williams, who worked for the Yazoo City Police Department; Dexture Franklin, who worked for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Wendell Johnson, who worked for the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office.Other accused co-conspirators include Marcus Nolan, Aasahn Roach, Jeremy Sallis, Torio Wiseman, Pierre Lakes and Derrik Wallace.Joiner said the defendants escorted the drug runs, including on a trip to Miami.Two people who were originally named in the indictment were found to have been cleared of all allegations related to the case. In a separate indictment, there are charges of conspiracy to aid in the transport and distribution of drugs in return for bribe money, as well as related offences to the carrying of guns during the crimes.During one of the drug runs, investigators said the defendants thought they were assisting in the transport of 25 kilos of cocaine through the Mississippi Delta.Those defendants include Jemario Stanford, who worked at the Greenwood Police Department; Marvin Flowers, who worked at the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department; Martavious Moore, who was a Greenville police officer; Marquavious Bankhead, who was a patrolman with the Mississippi Highway Patrol; Chakka Gains, who worked at the Greenville Police Department and Jaquarian Smith, who worked for the Humphries County Sheriff’s Department and the Isola Police Department. Officials said this was a monumental betrayal of public trust, a disgrace to the badge and that these suspects sold out the public.
