Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, co-founders of the band Arcade Fire, have announced that they are splitting up after 22 years of marriage.
“After a long and loving marriage, Win and Régine have decided to separate,” a statement posted on the band’s Instagram account said. “They continue to love, admire and support each other as they co-parent their son.
“Their work in Haiti with KANPE continues and their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire,“ the statement continued. ”The band send their love and look forward to seeing you all soon.”
Butler and Chassagne married in 2003, a year before Arcade Fire released its debut album, “Funeral.” Their son was born in 2013.
In 2022, several women came forward accusing Butler of sexual misconduct between 2016 and 2020. Butler denied the accusations, saying that he did have affairs but they were consensual.
“While these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior,” he said in a statement at the time.
Chassagne released a statement at the time defending her husband, saying “I know what is in his heart, and I know he has never, and would never, touch a woman without her consent and I am certain he never did.
“He has lost his way and he has found his way back. I love him and love the life we have created together,” she said.
Earlier this year, the band released the album “Elephant” and went on tour to support it.
The group won an Album of the Year Grammy Award for “The Suburbs” in 2011.
