Actress Suzanne Rogers has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 82-year-old actor was diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer during the summer, E! Online reports.

Rogers is best known for her character Maggie Horton on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. She’s been playing the character for more than 50 years.

Rogers told TV Insider she went to the doctor because something didn’t feel right and underwent several tests.

“He said, ‘You have cancer and you have to start treatment,’” Rogers said. She did chemotherapy and radiation daily for six weeks while the show was on hiatus.

Actress Linsey Godfrey, who plays Sarah, Maggie Horton’s daughter on the soap, sat with her while she underwent treatment. Several other costars supported her during the summer.

She admitted she’s a bit anxious about returning to work because she wants to do her “very best and you don’t want to hold up anybody.”

In 1984, Rogers was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a rare nerve and muscle disorder. She underwent treatment and returned to the show.
