The Utah Mammoth introduced their new mascot, Tusky, back on October 15 and the team was seemingly energized by their new prehistoric pal in more ways than one.

A video played at Delta Center illustrated how the blue-haired anthropomorphic woolly mammoth was discovered in the permafrost of the Rocky Mountains. He was carefully excavated and brought to the Delta Center in an elaborate pre-game ceremony for the team’s home opener against the Calgary Flames.

Tusky then burst from the large block of ice he had been preserved in, to raucous applause.

The 6-foot-5, left-shooting “center of attention” skated around the rink in his no. 00 jersey and riled up fans for what eventually went down as a 3-1 Mammoth victory. That kicked off a seven-game winning streak spanning nearly two weeks before the team eventually fell 6-3 to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

Prior to Tusky’s introduction, Utah began the 2025-26 campaign 1-2-0 and was outscored 7-5 across that stretch. But upon his arrival the club unleashed an offensive onslaught during its streak and nearly doubled up the opposition 32-17.

When the Mammoth logged their first loss in 13 days, Tusky’s official X account posted a concessionary yet hopeful message to fans about the team’s unbeaten run coming to an end.

“All things end, but we’ll be back,” the post read.

Colorado Avalanche mascot Bernie, in an apparent jab at his new Central Division rival, responded to Tusky’s post with a spicy comment.

“I was praying on the downfall tbh,” the anthropomorphic Bernese Mountain Dog wrote.

“Haters gonna hate,” Tusky clapped back.

Fellow Central Division foe mascot, Victor E. Green of the Dallas Stars, chimed in with a gif of a Jeopardy! contestant captioned, “What is things you love to see.”

Utah’s streak was a remarkable feat that got me wondering: Has any NHL team ever gone undefeated this long after debuting a mascot? So I did some digging through the league’s archives and… came up empty. Apparently there isn’t an official NHL record for longest win streak post-mascot reveal, which honestly how dare they? This is a very serious thing.

But fear not! After days of cross-checking mascot Wikipedia pages with old team schedules and official results, I crunched the numbers myself and uncovered some fascinating findings.

Utah’s seven consecutive wins after debuting Tusky actually tied the unofficial mark set by the 1993-94 New Jersey Devils when they unveiled N.J. Devil from the rafters of then-Brendan Byrne Arena.

The Mammoth became the first club in 32 years to win more than four consecutive games post-mascot debut. No team besides New Jersey, the 2008-09 Minnesota Wild and the 2001-02 New York Islanders had won more than three straight.

Some teams, however, did not receive a significant boost from introducing a costumed representative for the fans like Utah did. Since 1992, five clubs actually lost three consecutive games from the moment their mascot hit the ice. The 2011-12 Winnipeg Jets were the most recent to suffer such serious a stumble.

Here’s a semi-comprehensive list of every active NHL mascot and the length of the streak their respective teams embarked on upon their debuts. The New York Rangers are still the only NHL team without a mascot (boring!) and, therefore, are not included on this list.

Writer’s note: The data for a team’s streak post-mascot reveal was rigorously researched and compiled to the best of my ability. Not every team had a specific date their respective mascot was introduced, so their streaks were defaulted to start at the first regular season game of that season. Teams with multiple active mascots were limited to the debut of their most recent primary mascot for this project.
