Chris Sutton has never been one to miss an opportunity for a cheeky dig at Rangers and he’s delivered another after Celtic’s dramatic 3–1 extra-time victory in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden.
The former Celtic striker was quick to react online following the result, taking aim at Rangers’ new boss Danny Rohl, who suffered his first major setback since taking charge at Ibrox.
Sutton wrote on X:
“But Rangers were on a Rohl we all thought.”

It came just seconds after Martin O’Neill’s Celtic booked their place in the League Cup final thanks to goals from Johnny Kenny, Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand.
Rohl’s side had been aiming for a third straight victory and looked to have turned a corner in recent weeks, but the loss to Celtic, combined with Thelo Aasgaard’s red card and a late collapse in extra time, brought that momentum to a crashing halt.
Celtic looked the far superior team throughout the 120 minutes. They dealt with the pressure well and responded with two goals.
Celtic, meanwhile, march on to a December 14 final against St Mirren, with Sutton clearly enjoying every second of the fallout from a Hampden night that felt like vintage Celtic once again.
But first, there are a few important matches to play between then and now.
