New guidelines arm GPs with evidence-based deprescribing recommendations for over 100 common medicines, from PPIs to analgesics.

The University of WA-led guidelines, developed by more than 70 experts and patient representatives, bring together existing best-practice recommendations and general principles for safe deprescribing, lead author Amanda Quek told AusDoc.

“One of the most common barriers we heard was the lack of clear guidance on how to safely deprescribe medicines,” said Ms Quek, a pharmacist.

“That’s exactly what these guidelines aim to address.”
