Supplemental Security Income payments were issued at the end of October for the month of November. But the timing of Social Security benefits is business as usual for the many California recipients.

In December 2024, over 6 million people in California received Social Security, according to the Social Security Administration’s figures, with about 78% being retired workers.

Social Security benefits are paid on four dates in November, mainly corresponding to recipients’ birthdays.

Here are those payment dates, according to the SSA’s calendar:

Nov. 3: Recipients who received Social Security before May 1997 or receive both Social Security and SSI payments. If the latter, Social Security is paid on the 3rd.

Nov. 12: Recipients whose birth date falls between the 1st and 10th

Nov. 19: Recipients whose birth date falls between the 11th and 20th

Nov. 26: Recipients whose birth date falls between the 21st and 31st

Is Social Security affected by the government shutdown?

At the start of October, the Social Security Administration said that during the shutdown, payments to all who currently receive Social Security benefits and SSI “will continue with no change in payment dates” and that people “will still receive your payments on time.” The agency said that local offices would remain open to the public but would provide reduced services. About 6,000 SSA employees were expected to be furloughed in the shutdown, according to its September contingency plan.
