BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — LOCAL RESULTS
Officials with the Union Local School District are wondering what’s next after another attempt at passing a permanent improvement levy failed Tuesday.
With unofficial results tabulated, the proposed 2-mil levy for a permanent improvement plan failed with nearly 66% of voters saying no. If passed, it would have given the school district $816,000 per year to make annual improvements to the buildings.
“By that being a continuous improvement levy, that will give our treasurer the ability to leverage that money into low-interest rate loans that we can do a project a year and put our school district in a sustainable future,” Superintendent Zac Shutler previously told NEWS9.
This year’s proposal did not include money for athletic needs, but instead on what the district considers basic necessities for all students, Shutler said.
A levy that will help fund mental health services in the county for the next 10 years passed 5,907-4.614.
Officials with the Mental Health Recovery Board said passage will not result in new taxes for taxpayers.
“The mental Health and Recovery Board would like to thank the citizens of Belmont County for supporting the renewal levy and ensuring the sustainability of mental health services in Belmont County,” Lisa ward, head of the Mental Health Recovery Board, said in a statement to NEWS9.
