No. 8 Texas Tech hosts one of the biggest games in program history as No. 7 BYU comes to town in a pivotal Big 12 battle. The Red Raiders have charged towards the top of the conference title race during a breakout season led by a high-powered defense. Edge rusher David Bailey leads the nation in sacks, and the Red Raiders face a unique challenge in BYU. 

The Cougars are one of the few remaining undefeated programs nationally after beating Iowa State, No. 13 Utah and Arizona in their last three games. BYU has leaned on true freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier, a late add to the roster. The Cougars rank top 25 in defense, top 40 in offense and are able to challenge in nearly every phase of the game. 

Texas Tech and BYU have only played twice in program history, and never in Lubbock since 1940. The winner of this game virtually locks up a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game — and maybe the College Football Playoff. The loser’s path, however, gets much more complicated.
