DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings on Sunday recalled forward Nate Danielson from Grand Rapids Griffins. He is poised to make his NHL debut against the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena.

Danielson, 21, was the team’s top pick in the 2023 draft (ninth overall). He has five points (goal, four assists) in four games with Grand Rapids, after missing the start the season due to an injury suffered during the preseason with the Red Wings.

Red Wings coach Todd McLellan said at the time of Danielson’s injury that he was pushing for a spot on the season-opening roster. The spot was created a couple of weeks ago when the team reassigned 2024 top pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard to Grand Rapids after nine NHL games.

Danielson, a playmaking center with good hockey sense, appeared in 71 games last season, his first with the Griffins, and tallied 12 goals and 27 assists.
