Two 4-year-olds were hospitalized after they were shot Saturday at their family home, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.Deputies said they responded to Advent Health East around 2 a.m. after receiving reports of two boys with gunshot wounds. The boys were transported to the hospital by their parents, according to the OCSO. Deputies conducted interviews with both parents, who said they did not witness the shooting but heard a loud “pop” inside their home. Deputies said the twins’ mother, Keishara Goodrum, told them she had consumed large amounts of alcohol the day before the shooting. Goodrum said she grabbed her handgun, sat on her living room couch and placed the firearm under one of the couch cushions. During the interview with deputies, Goodrum stated that the children had access to the firearm because she forgot to secure it from the couch cushion.Both parents were arrested. Goodrum was arrested on two counts of child neglect resulting in great bodily harm. The father, Maurice Wayne Bright Jr., was taken into custody for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The two children were moved to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital for ongoing treatment and are reported to be in critical, yet stable, condition.
