Arizona Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison, Jr., will miss Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers after having surgery for appendicitis, head coach Jonathan Gannon said Wednesday.

In his second season, Harrison is Arizona’s biggest receiving threat behind tight end Trey McBride. In nine games, he has 34 catches for 525 yards and four touchdowns.

Gannon told reporters that Harrison had surgery earlier this week. It’s unknown if Harrison could miss additional time beyond the San Francisco game. The Cardinals (3-6) are coming off one of the worst performances in three seasons under Gannon, losing 44-22 to the Seattle Seahawks.

Arizona was already short-handed at receiver before the Harrison news. In addition to Harrison, veteran Zay Jones (Achilles) and Simi Fehoko (arm) suffered injuries against Seattle and will go on injured reserve, Gannon said. As of Wednesday, the Cardinals had just three healthy receivers on their active roster.

“It’s our job to put a plan together, get the guys ready to go and go out and compete and win,” Gannon told reporters. “That’s the job.”

On Wednesday, the Cardinals promoted receiver Andre Baccellia from the practice squad. He has played in 13 games over his career, but has not appeared in a regular-season game since 2023.

Expected to make a significant jump, Harrison has had an uneven season, much like his team. A week after posting seven catches for 96 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Dallas Cowboys, he struggled against the Seahawks. Targeted 12 times, Harrison had just three catches for 33 yards and a touchdown.
