(BEAVER DAM) Economic conditions in Dodge County are better than most places. That’s according to Wisconsin Department of Revenue Chief Economist John Koskinen. He says much of the United States and the world is dealing with economic insecurity. Koskinen says the U.S. in particular is dealing with significant budget and trade deficits.

“We have far lower exposure to those (economic) dislocations,” said Koskinen. “Best of all we have substantially improved our competitiveness. Our labor force is what what puts us in a solid position to outperform the rest of the U.S. Dodge County is an exmplar of most of those improvements.”

Unemployment in Dodge County is 2.7%, lower than the national average of 4.3%. Housing is more affordable, too. The median sale price for a Dodge County home is approximately $279,000, while the national median price is $430,387.

Koskinen spoke at Thursday’s Economic Update Luncheon put on by the Beaver Dam Chamber and Visitor Bureau.
