The New York Giants, notorious for fourth-quarter collapses this season, stayed true to form on Sunday despite the presence of interim head coach Mike Kafka and quarterback Jameis Winston.

As many things change, so many stay the same.

After an impressive and gritty late-fourth quarter drive engineered by Winston, giving the Giants a 20-19 lead, Shane Bowen’s defense couldn’t come up with a meaningful stop, again squandering what should have been a victory at windy MetLife Stadium.

Winston and the offense made it interesting, driving 51 yards on nine plays with just over a minute remaining, but the drive ended in an interception after wide receiver Jalin Hyatt stopped on his route.

A last hurrah with 10 seconds left ended with a Micah Parsons sack-fumble.

With the loss, the Giants fall to 2-9 on the season and will travel to Michigan in Week 12 to take on the high-powered Detroit Lions.

Here’s how the game played out:

Jameis Winston and the offense did their best to overcome the lacking defense, but couldn’t get it done in the end. After a nine-play, 51-yard drive, quarterback Jameis Winston targeted wide receiver Jalin Hyatt in the end zone.

Unfortunately for the duo, Hyatt cut off his route, and Winston put it where he expected the receiver to be. The result? A game-sealing interception.

Nursing a one-point lead, Shane Bowen’s defense could do nothing to stop the Packers late in the fourth quarter, as they drove 65 yards on seven plays, capped off with a 17-yard pass from quarterback Jordan Love to wide receiver Christian Watson.

With the wind whipping and analytics calling for a two-point conversion, Green Bay did exactly that with success.

Packers 27, Giants 20

Again, converting on fourth down plays, the Giants ground away at the Packers’ defense, going 85 yards on 15 plays. This time, there was no turnover on downs as quarterback Jameis Winston lunged in from one yard out, and Younghoe Koo made his point-after attempt.

The drive took 8:00 off the clock.

Giants 20, Packers 19

The Giants mounted a strong drive, converting on multiple fourth downs, in their opening second-half series, but ended up empty-handed. On a fourth-and-3 from their own 10-yard line, Jameis Winston was sacked, turning the ball over on downs.

Even in the absence of running back Josh Jacobs, the Packers’ offense kept rolling to start the third quarter. Aided by a Dane Belton defensive pass interference (35 yards), Green Bay capped off a six-play, 66-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to tight end Josh Whyle.

Once again, the point-after attempt was no good.

Packers 19, Giants 13

Packers running back Josh Jacobs was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a knee injury.

After a wild series where the Giants appeared to recover a fumble, the first half came to an end with an overturned call, a Brian Burns sack, a punt, and a kneel down.

Green Bay will receive the third quarter kickoff.

After surrendering the lead, Jameis Winston and the Giants’ offense answered back, driving 68 yards on 11 plays with a two-yard Devin Singletary touchdown punctuating the drive. Defensive tackle Elijah Chatman was used as a fullback on back-to-back goal-line plays.

The point-after attempt failed after Austin Schlottmann was penalized 15 yards for a chop block, and the kick sailed wide left.

Giants 13, Packers 13

The Packers have taken the lead over the Giants after capping off a 10-play, 84-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run by Emanuel Wilson. They converted on multiple third downs and routinely targeted the Giants’ lacking secondary (see: Deonte Banks, who was run through on the score).

Packers 13, Giants 7

Rookie cornerback Korie Black sustained an injury while making a third-down tackle. He was tended to by trainers on the field and eventually helped to the sideline before heading into the locker room.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love (shoulder) has returned to the game.

Packers running back Josh Jacobs suffered an undisclosed injury to end the first quarter and was seen limping into the locker room.

Green Bay later announced he sustained a knee injury and is questionable to return.

Even in the absence of Jordan Love, the Packers offense found a way to make things happen. Quarterback Malik Willis, using his legs primarily, helped finish off a 12-play, 62-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Christian Watson, who took the ball away from cornerback Deonte Banks.

With winds whipping, Green Bay missed the point-after attempt.

Giants 7, Packers 6

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has left the field and headed into the blue medical tent after taking a big hit from Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles. He has been replaced by Malik Willis.

After being examined on the sideline, Love was sent to the locker room and is listed as questionable to return.

Rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter did not see the field during the Packers’ opening offensive series, giving way to Tomon Fox. He finally saw action on Green Bay’s fourth-down punt.

Curious decision by Mike Kafka and Shane Bowen.

Interim head coach Mike Kafka lost his first-ever challenge when he threw the red flag, contesting that Packers running back Josh Jacobs had stepped out of bounds on a 16-yard gain. The ruling on the field was upheld after review.

In typical Jameis Winston fashion, the Giants’ opening drive featured a pair of big 20-yard passes and a near-interception. In the end, the veteran QB orchestrated a nine-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a five-yard Devin Singletary rushing touchdown.

The returning Isaish Hodgins also had a 20-yard reception on the drive.

Giants 7, Packers 0

The Giants won the coin toss and, in a noticeable change, have elected to receive. The Packers will get the ball to start the second half.

Cornerback Paulson Adebo, who missed the past several weeks with a sprained MCL, was downgraded to out after warm-ups due to some unexpected discomfort.
