Former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Troy Stecher joined his fifth different team Saturday since leaving the organization when he was claimed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Edmonton Oilers.
Stecher, 31, has appeared in only six games this season (no points), none since Oct. 30.
The 5-10, 184-pound right-shooter played in 60 games with Detroit from 2020-22 (four goals, nine assists, minus-19). The Red Wings dealt him to the Los Angeles Kings at the deadline for a seventh-round pick. He played 13 regular season and four playoff games that year under Todd McLellan.
Stecher has since played for Arizona (two stints) and Calgary. He has played in 566 career games (22 goals, 95 assists).
The Leafs needed a defenseman due to Chris Tanev’s injury.
Stecher is in the final year of his contract at $787,500.
